Ready to Fall Back? Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday, November 1

Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2:00 a.m. local time. At that moment clocks go back one hour to 1:00 a.m., so you get an extra hour of sleep. Most phones and computers change on their own, but the rest of the house usually needs a little help.

That timing comes from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which notes that DST now ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November each year.

What actually happens at 2:00 a.m.?

At 2:00 a.m. the local time becomes 1:00 a.m. and that hour repeats, so Sunday has 25 hours. NIST explains that the switch back to standard time moves an hour of daylight from the evening to the morning. Expect brighter mornings and darker late afternoons.

What should homeowners check this weekend?

The time change is an easy reminder for a quick round of house chores:

  • Change the clocks that don’t update on their own: the oven, microwave, car, wall clocks, and any older thermostat.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors with the test button, and replace batteries in any that chirp or fail.
  • Check the furnace filter now that the heat is running, and swap it if it looks dirty.
  • Reset outdoor lights and timers so porch, driveway, and landscape lights come on before it gets dark.
  • Look over walkways and steps for wet leaves before the darker evenings arrive.

Does the time change affect home appraisals?

A little. With shorter days, we try to schedule inspections and exterior photos earlier in the afternoon, while there is good daylight. If you have an appraisal coming up this fall or winter, an earlier time slot helps us get clear photos of the outside of the home and its lot.
